Sunday, January 17th is our Thorud Winter Party. This is a get together that was started years ago by Monroe for the brothers and sisters and their families to get together around Christmas. When the family got too big, it was held at the local grange. It was always a potluck, but Inez would make lefse and they would make lutefisk at the grange. When Monroe passed away, his kids still hosted the party, but then they moved away from the grange and it was hard to find a place to hold the party. So for a couple of years we didn't have the lutefisk party. Donna and I tried to find a venue for our get together, but with one thing and another, nothing was suitable. Steve and I then offered the use of our home for the party. (It is everyone's party, we just supply the building.) Since lutefisk smells so bad when it is cooking and not a lot of Thoruds care for it anyway, we then called it the Thorud Winter Party and we don't make lutefisk. I know, tough break! We also changed the date to the third Sunday in January. First, because everyone is really busy before Christmas and it was hard to get everyone together. Second, because it would be easy to remember as the Thorud Reunion is the third Sunday weekend in July. Well, that's about it for anyone who didn't know about our Winter Party. No snow or freezing rain expected, so everyone should be able to make it up the hill! (Yes, we live on a hill.) Hopefully we will have a large turnout as, for some, it is the only time we will see them. See you then!
Uff da!!!
