Gene and Sandy Goodman with Marion Glenna

This is Marion with her youngest daughter Sandy and her husband Gene Goodman. We had a nice chat that day with the river nearby and a bike path that had been the railroad tracks. The bike path goes to three other cities and is VERY popular there. Beautiful with the trees turning colorful reds and yellows, but still holding the greens.

Marion and Richard Glenna's children and spouses

Ken O'Kada, Gene Goodman and Toby (Tobin) Glenna
Susy (Susanne) O'Kada, Sandra Goodman, Bonnie Glenna, Marion and Richard Glenna
Mike (Michael) and Sara Onsager, Sherida and Tom Newgard
(In order by age: Susy, Sara, Toby, Sherida, Sandy)

Marion Glenna

This is our cousin, by marriage, Marion Glenna. She was married to Richard Glenna who passed away about four years ago. Richard was Mary Thorud's son. Mary was Grandpa John Oliver's sister. I, Pat Sturges, had a very nice visit with her in Lanesboro, Minnesota last week. She is doing great at 85 years old! She does lots of quilting and donates them all to charities. Her children and their families are all doing great, too. She has something like 29 or more grandchildren and some greatgrandchildren also. I had a fun day with her and her youngest daughter and husband, who were camping in town for the weekend.

2009 - The 46th Annual Thorud Picnic

Our 46th annual family picnic began on Thursday, July 16, 2009. Our weekend was filled with nice warm sunny weather, which made everyone appreciate the river that much more.

Saturday's main event began early in the morning with preparing the bar-b-que for the pig that would be roasting all day.

The kids games were crazy, wild and fun as usual! After the games, Merle's ice cream cones were a big hit for all those hot little bodies and big ones too. Our day was topped off by the wonderful potluck dishes and roasted pig - YUM! In the evening everyone sat around the fire and some of the adults played BINGO. (They can get pretty roudy! UFF DA!)

Terry and Nancy Bryn visited for the day and talked about farm life in Dazey. (Nice to hear that North Dakota accent!) Dorothy Esser, Pete, Carol, Chris and the boys made it from Seattle. Owen Lewis and his girlfriend Sherry and her son Jeremiah came from Bend and spent the weekend camping with us. It was nice to talk to Robert Templeton's girlfriend Jessica and her daughter Mikayla. It was great to see Al and Emily again and hope to see them next year.

Special thanks to Ivan, Arvaida, Rob, Denny, Jim, Jason, Dena, Laurel, Donna and the numerous others who made this another successful and fun gathering.

For those of you who were not able to make it, we missed you and hope you can join us next year. We have lots of room for all!

From the little state of Alaska, we are expecting Dawn and Dave Maranville and Brandon Thorud and his family, too!!!!
We are hoping the California cousins will make it up for our pig roast as there will be plenty for everyone!!

I've changed the title area of this site. I wasn't sure if I should of used Ole's family picture (great-great-grandfather), this picture (grandfather Oliver's family) or a group picture of the grubby cousins (Oliver's grandkids). Any preference?

Day 1

We are here at Donna's house setting up this blog and having Grampa & Merle's birthday party as well. We are discussing the Thorud Picnic and trying to come up with an easy way for all of us to keep in touch through the blog. Merle will be checking the blog through the library and we will udpate Grama & Grampa on what's going on. You all will be able to log on and check out what everyone is doing. Please feel free to add pics, blogs and whatever other fun stuff you can add. Looking forward to reading about you and your family as well. Happy Sunday!!!
